This past weekend I went to my old school’s baccalaureate and graduation where I found myself deeply moved by the strong bond of love so openly expressed by the graduates. At one point during the baccalaureate, two of the graduates sang a song composed by another two entitled “Come What May.” The chorus went:
“Come what may, I’ll remember steadfast strength, united as one guided by His grace and love. Though we’re apart we’re connected by unfailing love, so come what may…you’re a handprint on my heart.”
This song was a beautiful depiction of the dynamic of their class. Together, they had experienced ups and downs that come with growing up. Together, they had experienced the power and love of the Lord. Now, at the end of the long road called High School, they can call themselves a true family; a circle of friends they know they can lean on at any point for anything. I’ve never had that kind of circle of friends until this year. There’s nothing more special than talking about God until the wee hours of the morning or singing praise songs around a campfire with out-of-sync guitars. Its times like those that I savor. If only we could rewind time so we could relive the feeling, the smells, and the sounds. But with true friends, its a guarantee that those kind of moments will happen again. So, we can say with confidence that “come what may, I’ll remember steadfast strength, united as one guided by His grace and love. Though we’re apart we’re connected by unfailing love, so come what may…you’re a handprint on my heart.”
